Natural Donkey milk soaps are far different from commercially-made soaps or store bought soaps in that they contain glycerin, no harsh chemicals and no artificial fragrance oils.
WHAT ARE THE REASONS TO USE NATURAL DONKEY MILK SOAPS?
Reason #1: Natural Donkey milk Soap made the Old-Fashioned Way
Our ancestors knew what they were doing, and did it for thousands of years – why change it! Our soaps are made using the Cold Process method – just like the old-folks used to do it.
We mix lye with Donkey milk, then blend it with oils, then add essential oils such as Lavender essential oil and natural colorants, such as curcuma and finally, pour it into molds to make it nice and pretty.
We make our natural donkey milk soaps in small batches to allow us to carefully monitor and adjust the soap as needed. We consider the humidity in the air, the season we are in, the ambient temperature in the room and more to ensure that every batch is as perfect as it can be. We also sterilize our equipment in between batches so that oils from one batch do not contaminate oils from another batch.
All of these steps help us to ensure that every bar of soap has the right blend of ingredients and has been personally viewed for excellence. Because we have such an intimate, hands-on approach with our soaps, we can be confident that you as the consumer can both see the difference and feel the difference in quality.
This method of hand-making soap is of course, the opposite of store bought soap which is made on a large scale in factories. Store bought soap is made using a continuous flow method with hundreds of hands on the process…or probably now a days, a hundred robot arms. Once the soap base is produced, it is then mixed with a handful of fillers and chemicals such as Sodium Isethionate (a foam enhancer) and Dipropylene Glycol (a chemical solvent…why it’s needed…who knows) and then formed into molds.
Reason #2: Handmade Soap Contains Glycerin.
Natural Donkey milk bar soaps are made with a process of chemical restructuring called “saponification”. During the process of saponification, the oils or fats and lye combine to create a substance that is considered a salt of a fatty acid. A byproduct of this process is glycerin. Glycerin is a natural humectant, meaning it pulls moisture from the surrounding air and draws it to it.
One of the benefits of natural soap is the integrity of the glycerin. Most handmade soap makers leave all the glycerin in the soaps, as opposed to commercially-made soap makers that typically remove the glycerin and sell it in more profitable products such as lotions, lubricants and most recently, e-cigarettes.
By allowing the glycerin to remain unadulterated in the soap, natural bar soap takes on a very moisturizing quality. Of course, all soap will strip your skin of oils. That is sort of how it works so well. However, if the glycerin is left inside the soap, this glycerin will be absorbed into your skin during bathing, and will remain even when the soap rinses away your skin’s oils.
Then, throughout the day, the glycerin in your skin will pull the moisture deep down into the layers of your skin, thus providing moisture throughout the day.
Reason #3: Handmade Soap is Simply Amazing for your Skin!
Handmade Donkey milk soap preserves the integrity of the oils. Olive oil goes in, saponified (made into soap) olive oil comes out. Coconut oil goes in, Coconut oil comes out. Because of this, the oils maintain their vitamins, minerals and skin-loving qualities in the final soap product.
A skilled soap maker can modify their recipe to produce characteristics in the soap naturally instead of adding chemicals to achieve the same goal. To make a harder bar of soap, add more olive oil. To make a thick-lathering soap, add some honey. Store-bought soap is likely to have the addition of synthetic chemicals to produce similar results and we feel, it simply is not needed.
